Moscow warns of countermeasures being taken in response to Japan's belligerent behavior and threats to security in the region from its side. This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"We are following the [Japanese Prime Minister's] administration very closely Fumio Kishida is committed to the remilitarization of Japan, including serving Washington's strategy of systematically consolidating American-centric block initiatives of anti-Russian and, of course, anti-Chinese orientation in Asia. We qualify this exclusively as Tokyo's irresponsible policy. We are warning about our countermeasures to strengthen defense capabilities and protect national sovereignty," Zakharova said, quoted by TASS.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Kishida's policy puts Japan on the path of escalating tensions in the Asia-Pacific region, and also leads to the creation of security threats for Russia.
The diplomat also recalled that the latest demarche of the Russian side against Tokyo was undertaken in connection with the past Japanese military exercises near the Far Eastern borders of Russia with the participation of the armed forces of NATO countries.
