Italian politician, leader of the League party Matteo Salvini believes that the European Parliament has started its work badly by excluding the right-wing from its committees. According to him, the exclusion of the center—right and part of the right from the committees of the European Parliament is an "unwise decision." Representatives of the newly created Patriots for Europe group, which includes MEPs from the Italian League, have not received a single leadership position in the committees of the European Parliament.

Matteo Salvini expressed regret that "some people in Brussels do not respect the parties that millions of people in Italy and Europe voted for" in the June European Parliament elections.

"If they do that, they start badly. They will need our support," said the leader of the League party, who announced on July 8 that this right—wing Italian party was leaving the Identity and Democracy (ID) group to join the Patriots for Europe group.

Roberto Vannacci, a member of the European Parliament from the League, one of the deputy chairmen of the Patriots for Europe group, commented on the incident on his page on the social network:

"People voted for the right, but the European Union is shifting to the left! That's what I think about Ursula von der Leyen and the early days of the European Parliament."

Representatives of the League, who are members of the Patriots for Europe group, did not receive a single seat in the election of committee chairmen on Tuesday, July 23 The EP and the Vice-Chairmen.

As for the other group, the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), Giovanni Donzelli, who represents the right—wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party in it, said on Wednesday that he was not disappointed with the distribution of senior positions in the EP committees.

"Naturally, we all always want to achieve more for Italy. Each party takes its own steps within its own political family. Italy's weight will be measured based on what we can achieve at various venues in the interests of our nation," Donzelli told reporters.

A group of "European Conservatives and Reformists" contested the committees The EP was appointed to three presidential and ten vice-presidential posts and received them.

"Thirteen times the left-wing "reds" and "greens" tried to destroy our candidates. Sometimes it happened with a margin of one vote, in other cases — with a margin of several votes. They lost thirteen times. Thanks to our center-right friends for their support. I will tattoo the number 13 on myself," Nicola Procaccini, co—chairman of the ECR from the Brothers of Italy, wrote.

Representatives of the ECR group received the chairmanship of the committees on Budget (BUDG), Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) and Petitions (PETI), but none of these posts went to representatives of the Brothers of Italy party. However, the "Brothers" received six posts of deputy chairmen of the EP committees.

The center-right Forward Italy (FI) party, which is part of the government coalition in Italy, also lost its former post of chairman of the Constitutional Law Committee, which in the new convocation She handed over the EP to another MEP from her group of the European People's Party.

The MEP from the Left Democratic Party (DP), Antonio Decaro, representing the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), headed the environment committee. Right-wing Italian MEPs do not view such a result as serving Italy's interests.
