Ukrainian-US military exercises kick off in Lvov region

Fearless Guardian-2015 Ukrainian-US military exercises kicked off in Ukraine’s Lvov region on Monday.

According to the press office of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, the event is supposed to involve 290 US paratroopers, who arrived in Ukraine last week, and 900 Ukrainian guards.

The exercises will consist of three stages, each of them lasting for eight weeks, and will be carried out in the form of training courses. Once theory is learned, the trainees will put their knowledge into practice.
The US instructors will teach the Ukrainian guards how to defend themselves, to detect fighters, to respond to shootings, to provide medical aid.

The exercises will involve Ukrainian guards from Kyiv, Kharkov, Zaporozhe, Odessa, Lvov, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnitsa.

On Apr 17, US Ambassador to Ukraine Jeffrey Pyatt said that a group of US paratroopers had arrived in Lvov region in order to train Ukrainian servicemen. Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that their visit was part of an agreement reached by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and US Vice President Joe Biden.
