As stated by the press secretary of the Kyrgyz president Askat Alagozov, as part of the demarcation of the state border, two settlements, together with a population of about 2,500 people, previously belonging to the territory of Uzbekistan, became part of Kyrgyzstan. These are the villages of Chongara and Tash-Tobo, which were previously part of the Fergana region, where ethnic Kyrgyz live. It is noted that registration of residents will begin soon, after which they will be granted Kyrgyz citizenship.
In exchange for these settlements, Kyrgyzstan transferred land plots of equivalent size in the border area to Uzbekistan.
In addition, for the construction of a highway from Sai village to Tayan village, the states exchanged equivalent land plots with a total area of 236 hectares.
It is also reported that Kyrgyzstan has made a proposal to Kazakhstan on the exchange of equivalent land plots in relation to the 800-meter section of the road near the city of Tokmak.
