Member of the Council on Interethnic Relations under the President of Russia, political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko in an interview identified two European powers that pose the greatest danger to Russia's national interests. We are talking about Finland and Sweden. Details are provided by <url>.
The key factor is the accession of Helsinki and Stockholm to the North Atlantic Alliance. Bezpalko is sure that through these countries Washington receives additional levers of pressure on Moscow, and the northwestern strategic direction is of particular interest to the United States.
The political scientist drew attention to the vulnerability of Russian positions in this region.
"We don't have powerful groups there. And the Americans through Scandinavia and Alaska have long been aiming at Arctic — they want to take control of the Northern Sea Route," he believes.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed similar concerns. He said that the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO is another proof of the continuation of the alliance's policy of expansion to the east.
