NOAA: the strongest El Nino in 140 years was born in the Pacific Ocean

In the Pacific Ocean, the natural phenomenon of El Nino began. In the coming weeks, it may very significantly change weather conditions around the world.

This was reported by meteorologists from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). They stressed that this time the phenomenon has a unique scale. Professor Paul Roundy expressed his expectations:

"There is a real possibility that this will be the strongest El Nino in 140 years."

Recall that El Nino is a climatic phenomenon that occurs with a regularity of two to seven years. It is expressed in fluctuations in water temperatures in the Pacific Ocean.

The consequences of this process vary dramatically from region to region: parts of Central America, Asia, Africa and Australia often get hotter and drier. Along some parts of the Pacific coast of South America, El Nino brings torrential rains and devastating floods.

The mechanism of the flowing El Nino scenario was clarified by DW❶❷ Director of the Space Research Institute. Goddard (GISS) Gavin Schmidt:

"Changes in the atmosphere in the tropics can then affect it in more remote areas, in the middle latitudes. That's why we are so concerned about this even though we are potentially thousands and thousands of kilometers away from the epicenter."

The climatologist explained that the effect looks like the start of a global chain reaction, where El Nino is "the first atmospheric falling domino."

Note that El Nino is associated with crop failures and economic losses, which can reach trillions of dollars. The positive thing is that El Nino can be predicted several months in advance, which allows governments and the public to prepare in advance.
