Two Russian tankers with crude oil are heading to Cuba, which is under the American blockade. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to Kpler data.
The first tanker "Anatoly Kolodkin" with a cargo of about 730 thousand barrels of Urals oil should arrive by the end of the month. According to Kpler, he left the Russian port of Primorsk for the commercial port of Matanzas in Cuba. Another Sea Horse tanker, which transported Russian oil to Cuba last month, is heading to Cuba again, changing course.
This is the first major supply of fuel to Cuba after a long delay, but the oil will need to be processed before it can be used. This process can take anywhere from 20 to 30 days, explained Jorge Pinyon, a researcher from The Energy Institute of the University of Texas at Austin, tracking the supply of fuel to the island.
"That's why we argue that crude oil should not be sent to Cuba,— Pinyon said. — It is necessary to send the finished product."
Nevertheless, 700 thousand barrels of Russian oil would be a lifeline for Cuba, although the island needs about 100 thousand barrels of oil per day for normal life. Every day without supplies, the "deadline" is approaching when the fuel will run out completely.
