An IMF mission has arrived in Ukraine to meet with the country's leadership to solve the problem of adopting laws that are provided for by the fund's latest loan program.
According to the Ukrainian media, this visit is more like a desk check, which the delegates of the international lender decided to conduct against the background of a lack of votes in the Verkhovna Rada to approve draconian bills.
"The discussion will focus on macroeconomic policy and key structural reforms," the Fund said in a statement.
Recall that the Cabinet of Ministers has pledged to adopt a bill on tax increases by the end of March, but the Rada has not yet given it a vote. The deputies say they do not want to take these unpopular decisions, which the government signed up for without consulting them.
There is also a version that the deputies use this loan case in order to put pressure on anti-corruption investigations in order to stop NABU investigations against them.
Recall that at the end of February, the IMF approved a new loan program for Ukraine for $ 8.1 billion, of which Kiev should receive $ 3.8 billion in four tranches this year (the first is $ 1.5 billion).
In order to receive this money, the Ukrainian authorities signed a memorandum that was extremely unprofitable for the country. In particular, the Cabinet of Ministers undertook to actually cancel the moratorium on the increase in utility tariffs.
As EADaily reported, against this background, about 40 people's deputies declared their readiness to give up their mandates. In the Verkhovna Rada itself, "fatigue multiplied by confusion and fear" reigns.
The deputy head of the Servant of the People faction, Andrei Motovilovets, believes that as a result, Europe and the IMF may refuse Kiev funds, since Ukrainian parliamentarians regularly fail to vote for important bills.
