A "perfect example" of using the new war in the Middle East in the interests of various states having problems in relations with each other is the actions of Turkey and Greece, political scientist Alexei Pilko recorded.

Shortly after the Iranian strikes on the British military base Akrotiri in Cyprus, Ankara transferred six F-16 fighters to the airfields of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Of course, the political scientist noted, Greek Southern Cyprus immediately protested, but that was not the case. Because the Turkish representatives immediately reported that their aircraft were intended solely to neutralize the military threat from Iran and were not a statement on the Turkish affiliation of Northern Cyprus. Of course, Athens did not believe Ankara and made a retaliatory move, Pilko writes in the telegram channel.

The Greek battery of Patriot air defense systems immediately moved to the island of Karpathos in the Aegean Sea, which is conveniently located between Crete and Rhodes, and very close to the Turkish coast with its popular resorts among Russians — Bodrum and Marmaris. Of course, Turkey did not like this very much, which protested and pointed out that according to the Lausanne Treaty of 1923 and the Paris Treaty of 1947, this Greek island has a demilitarized status, the political scientist outlined the situation.

"Nevertheless, the Greek side continues to insist on its right to deploy air defense to protect Cyprus from Iran at a pistol shot distance from the shores of Turkey. In turn, Ankara is making plans to increase the Turkish military presence in Northern Cyprus and also solely with the aim of deterring Tehran. However, whether it will still be. If the war drags on, a lot of interesting things will happen," Pilko concluded.
