A combat training launch of a mobile-based solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile was carried out at the Plesetsk State test cosmodrome. This has just been reported in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The strategic missile forces have worked out the procedure for redeployment to a remote area of the PGRK launch battery with the preparation and conduct of the launch. The purpose of the launch was to confirm the technical and flight characteristics of the missile system. The training units arrived in the designated area of the Kura training ground in Kamchatka.
All the tasks have been completed in full.
Recall that solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) form the basis of the land and sea groupings of Russia's strategic nuclear forces. These are the RS-24 Yars, the main mobile and silo—based three-stage missile of the Strategic Missile Forces with separable warheads; the RT-2PM2 Topol—M, a silo and mobile missile system of the previous generation, created in the 1990s, and the R-30 Bulava, a sea-based ICBM for arming nuclear submarines of the project 955 "Boreas".
The main advantages of solid-fuel ICBMs are constant readiness for launch, mobility (difficult to detect from satellites) and a quick start that reduces vulnerability to enemy strikes.
