Today, on March 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with UAE President Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Emir of Qatar Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and King of Bahrain Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa. The main purpose of the calls is to end the war with Iran unleashed by the United States and Israel.
The need for an early ceasefire and a return to the political and diplomatic process was noted. Vladimir Putin recalled that the Russian side has done a lot in terms of promoting a peaceful settlement of the situation around the Iranian nuclear program and searching for mutually acceptable compromises. The Emirati side also played an active role in this process. However, the existing developments were disrupted as a result of unprovoked armed aggression against a sovereign UN member state.
The Russian President thanked Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for helping those in Emirates to Russian citizens, including numerous tourists. The UAE President emphasized that the Iranian retaliatory strikes directly affected the Emirates, causing damage to the country and posing a threat to civilians. According to him, such strikes are carried out despite the fact that the territory of the UAE is not used as a springboard for attacks on Iran, and therefore are not justified by anything. Vladimir Putin, for his part, expressed readiness to transmit these signals to Tehran and, in general, to provide possible assistance in order to stabilize the overall situation.
During the conversation with Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, mutual concern was expressed about the risks of expanding the conflict and the danger of involving third countries in it. At the same time, the hope was expressed that Iran's retaliatory actions would not cause damage to civilians and civilian infrastructure of neighboring countries.
The Emir of Qatar expressed gratitude for the support of the States of the region in the current difficult situation. He stressed that cooperation with Russia in various sectors remains their priority. Mutual hope was expressed for the soonest de-escalation of the conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and King of Bahrain Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa emphasized the need to stop hostilities in the Middle East region in order to prevent the situation from getting out of control, the Kremlin's press service reports.
