The Swedish Security Police (Säpo), at the request of the United States, detained a Russian citizen who was on the international wanted list on suspicion of allegedly violating US sanctions, Washington is demanding his extradition, TV4 reports, citing a spokesman for Säpo.
"Säpo detained a Russian and has been holding him in custody for several months. He was on the international wanted list after the American authorities had been looking for him for six months. Now the United States wants to extradite the man," the channel's material says.
According to TV4, the detention was carried out at the end of December 2025 in Stockholm. It is noted that the Russian has been on the international wanted list since last summer, after being arrested in absentia by an American court. According to the TV channel, Swedish law enforcement officers also conducted a search, during which they seized a number of items, including mobile phones.
According to TV4, the man is suspected of a serious violation of sanctions in the period from 2022 to 2023. It is noted that the Swedish authorities have begun consideration of the extradition case.
