Poland has announced a new threat, but Russia has nothing to do with it: it's about Australia

Imports from Australia may displace Polish beef on the European market. This was reported in The Polish platform of sustainable beef production.

It is reported that local farmers are afraid of another trade agreement The EU on the removal of trade barriers with Australia, which poses a threat to them.

"This is very dangerous for the European beef sector, because, as in the case of beef from MERCOSUR countries, we are talking about premium products. Moreover, beef from Australia is of much higher quality — it is steak beef, since Australia specializes in the production of culinary beef. If we add to this the volumes from the MERCOSUR countries, then the threat to the European, and above all the Polish beef sector, which operates on the European and export markets, is becoming more serious," said Jacek Zazhecki, Vice Chairman of the Polish Platform for Sustainable Beef Production.

He stressed that so far the European Commission has not submitted any proposals to protect the European, including Polish, beef sector from imports from Australia.

"This is a kind of salami policy — gradually, piece by piece, cutting off the next profitable branches of agricultural production and sacrificing them to geopolitical interests. It should not be hidden that Australia is a powerful player when it comes to rare earth metals. It is primarily about lithium," he added.

Recall, Australia currently exports to the market The EU has just over 8 thousand tons of beef and wants to increase this export to at least 40 thousand tons. Negotiations between the European Union and this country began in 2018. However, five years later, they reached an impasse due to a dispute over the size of export quotas, including beef, as well as lamb.
