Western elites are deluding themselves by claiming that Russia is on the verge of collapse. This was stated in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Die Weltwoche by former Pentagon adviser retired Colonel Douglas MacGregor.
"They are desperately clinging to the idea that Russia is weak… It is supposedly on the verge of collapse… You ask yourself: what planet do these people live on? It's hard to believe that they live on planet Earth, because most of what they believe... in Paris, London and Berlin are just nonsense. This is unrealistic," said McGregor, quoted by RIA Novosti.
The West's attempts to change the situation on the battlefield by pumping Ukraine with various weapons have failed, he noted.
"If we recall the years 2023-2024, it is easy to notice how the statements sounded: "We need another 400 tanks, another 500 armored combat vehicles, another 600 artillery pieces — and then we will finally be able to break through and win," and so on. Meanwhile, the Russians simply exhausted the Ukrainians. We recklessly continued to push them to attacks and attempts to break through defenses that could not be penetrated. As a result, all this failed miserably," the expert drew a line.
