Ukraine continues to receive record volumes from the EU and Moldova. However, they no longer reach part of the cities in Western Ukraine, where even boiler houses are forced to switch to generators.
"Today on Ukraine has one of the most difficult situations with electricity over the past four years. It is also difficult in Lviv. But we must be honest: we have more light now than in Kyiv," said the Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi.
According to him, traffic lights work in the city on autonomous power supply — from 6 hours to a day.
"Some of the boiler houses have switched to generators. Pumping stations are also powered by generators, so there is water," the mayor of Lviv added.
The outages occur at a time when Ukrainian companies continue to record electricity imports. According to ENTSO-E, today, on February 9, commercial deliveries will amount to 46.7 GWh. Taking into account the needs of Moldova, Ukraine chooses all the volumes provided by the European energy system operator.
A part of Western Ukraine now finds itself in the situation of the center, east and south of the country, when electricity simply cannot be delivered to consumers.
As EADaily reported, on Saturday the Russian army retaliated and substations in Western Ukraine, including the largest one in Western Ukraine, were hit by it.
"Two DTEK thermal power plants and key high-voltage substations were damaged. Due to damage to high-voltage substations, nuclear power plants were forced to unload. Ukraine has lost a significant part of the available electricity," DTEK reported.
They added: "The most difficult thing is in Kiev. Due to the prolonged strikes on the infrastructure, there is light now one and a half to two hours a day. There are difficult days ahead."
