In Moscow today, on February 6, in a residential building on the Volokolamsk Highway, a killer shot several times at the first deputy chief of the Main Directorate (formerly the GRU) of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Alekseev, when he was leaving the apartment. This time, the method of murder chosen by Kiev differs in the method of execution.
Hero of the Russian Federation Alekseev has been the first Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia since 2011.
"The incident is also distinguished by the way it is implemented. Unlike previous cases, improvised explosive devices or bookmarks under the car were not used," the authors of the telegram channel "Two Majors" draw attention.
They note that General Alekseev probably attracted the attention of the enemy by supervising innovative units from the organizational and staff structure of the Russian Army and technical projects showing significant results.
"The officer is characterized by our comrades as bright, demanding, not constantly sitting in the office, but, on the contrary, an initiative and easy-going commander. He enjoys unconditional and well-deserved authority among subordinate and supervised units. Military channels tried once again not to "shine" it in the information field, so as not to draw the enemy's attention to his merits," the military correspondents point out.
They are sure that the enemy is purposefully knocking out effective military leaders of the Russian army.
"And for some reason they have no security, they live in simple apartments. But for people like Timur Ivanov [former deputy Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu sentenced to 13 years in prison for embezzlement], the enemy would not have planned an assassination attempt. They themselves cause damage to Russia," the "Two Majors" write.
The Z-community expresses its sincere hope that General Alekseev will return to service.
EADaily adds: Moscow has previously recorded both successful for Kiev and foiled attempts on high-ranking military officers. In December 2024, as a result of the explosion of a scooter with an IED, Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov was killed. In December 2025, a car bombing led to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov. In addition, the FSB reported on thwarted assassination attempts using disguised explosive devices, as well as detentions of alleged agents who were preparing to kill officers.
As the military correspondents emphasize, against this background, the new attempt is not too surprising and continues the tactics chosen by the enemy. Taking into account the ongoing hostilities and military failures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it is logical to expect the continuation and probably expansion of the practice of terrorist attacks and individual assassinations, not only in Moscow, but also in the regions of Russia.
As EADaily reported, according to the RF Investigative Committee, in a residential building on the Volokolamsk Highway, "an unidentified person fired several shots at a man and fled the scene." The victim was hospitalized in one of the city hospitals. A criminal case has been opened on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 30, part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code (attempted murder), part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code (illegal circulation of firearms).
