Trilateral peace talks on Ukraine in Abu Dhabi postponed after the meeting of Russia and the United States in Miami. It is reported by The New York Times.
"The second round of trilateral talks on ending the war in Ukraine has been postponed for several days after an unexpected meeting between Russian and American negotiators in Florida this weekend," the newspaper writes.
Negotiations with the participation of representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the United States were expected on Sunday in Abu Dhabi, but early this morning the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, announced on social networks that the meetings had been postponed to Wednesday and Thursday, the publication said.
It is unclear why the talks were delayed, the NYT notes. However, on the eve of the special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff held a meeting in Florida with the Kremlin's special representative Kirill Dmitriev. Neither side disclosed the details of the discussion, although both Witkoff and Dmitriev in social networks called the meeting productive and constructive.
Ukrainians did not participate in these negotiations, the newspaper emphasizes.
Last week, Zelensky suggested that tensions between the United States and Iran may delay peace talks on Ukraine, the newspaper reminds.
The first round of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi was held on January 23-24. The second round is expected to focus on the US-backed 20-point peace plan, which defines possible territorial agreements, security guarantees and plans for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
As EADaily reported, the trilateral meeting scheduled for today in Abu Dhabi on Ukraine will not take place. This was stated in his telegram channel by the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky. Negotiations have been postponed to February 4-5.
Recall, Dmitriev managed to inspire Witkoff at the talks on Ukraine in Miami.
