At the request of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, the Paris Court of Appeal overturned the decision in the case of Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov, adopted in 2022 by the International Arbitration Court at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.
"We are talking about recognizing the jurisdiction of arbitration to consider the claims of Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov and companies controlled by him to the Russian Federation in connection with the alleged expropriation of his assets on the territory of Crimea in 2014," the prosecutor's office said.
The French court supported the arguments of the Russian side that the composition of the arbitration was formed unlawfully. In particular, the panel of three judges agreed that the public statements of the chairman of the arbitration court Siegfried Elsingh in support of Ukraine were incompatible with his performance of the functions of an arbitrator in a dispute involving our state.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office will continue to work to counter the claims of Akhmetov and other Ukrainian legal entities and individuals against the country in international arbitration.
