The Oreshnik missile is one of the most dangerous in the world, because it cannot be intercepted. This was stated by a professor of political science from The University of Innsbruck Gerhard Mangott, according to the German newspaper Bild.
"This is the most dangerous weapon that Putin has used in this conflict so far, and one of the most dangerous in the world," the expert said.
According to Mangott, missiles are made so dangerous, in particular, by their speed — more than 12 thousand km / h. This is more than four times faster than a fighter jet.
"We have to proceed from the fact that the Oreshnik missiles are practically — or even completely — not amenable to interception. Technical experience, whether the Arrow 3 or Patriot air defense systems have any chance against them, does not exist yet," he explained.
However, the greatest danger of the "Hazel" is that it can be equipped with six conventional or nuclear warheads. At the same time, one missile can simultaneously attack different targets — "each warhead has its own flight path." "This already makes its interception almost impossible," Mangott stressed.
It is estimated that Russia could produce from one to two dozen such hypersonic missiles, he added.
As EADaily reported, the Oreshnik missile strike caused serious damage to critical infrastructure in Lviv, but large-scale casualties and destruction were avoided because it was without an equipped warhead. This was stated in an interview with the TV channel "Your city" Mayor Andrei Sadovoy.
