Storm "Goretti" reached the UK and brought strong wind, rain and snow, a "red" danger level was declared. This is reported by Sky News channel.

In the city of New Key, they are preparing for a "weather bomb" caused by the Goretti storm, correspondent Stephen Murphy reports.

The wind has increased, according to him, quite significantly, but has not yet reached the predicted 90 mph, this will happen later.

"There is no doubt that this is a rather rare phenomenon. People here in New Key have told me that they can't remember when there was such a "red" alarm in this part of England. People here have certain concerns about what these conditions will bring," the correspondent said.

In Cornwall, an emergency warning has been issued about strong winds that may pose a danger to life. Local residents were urged to stay at home and collect "torches and other necessary things."

According to the channel, the Meteorological Department has expanded the scope of its two warnings to cover more areas of the UK. The "yellow" warning for snowfall in the north and central England and Wales has been extended north to parts of Cheshire. The "amber" level has now been announced in Wrexham, Stafford and parts of Flintshire.

Named by the French weather forecaster Meteo France, the Goretti storm is described by the Meteorological Department as a "multi-dangerous event", with up to 30 cm of snow possible in some parts of the UK. Warnings of snow, wind, rain and ice have been issued across the country ahead of possible "disruptions and dangerous travel conditions." The Meteorological Service said that in the next few hours "strong gusts of winds" will hit parts of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, creating a potential danger to life," the channel reports.

The "red" warning, valid from 16.00 to 23.00 local time, means that residents should expect damage to buildings, very large waves, flying debris that pose a danger to life, power outages and cancellation of public transport.

In Cornwall, dozens of schools closed early today as the storm approached, and Network Rail announced that train services in Cornwall would be suspended from 18.00.
