Putin has granted Russian citizenship to a 77-year-old Georgian actor

Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted Russian citizenship to Valery Kharyutchenko, a Georgian actor and director of the Tbilisi State Academic Russian Drama Theater named after A. S. Griboyedov. The relevant decree has been published on the official portal of legal information.

It is specified that the decision to grant citizenship was made in accordance with paragraph "a" of Article 89 of the Constitution of Russia. This provision allows the President to resolve issues of citizenship and granting political asylum.

Valery Kharyutchenko was born on October 1, 1948 on the Kuril island of Shumshu (Sakhalin Region). In 1971 he graduated from the Moscow Theater School named after M. S. Shchepkin. In the same year he joined the troupe of the Tbilisi Drama Theater. He took part in dozens of theatrical productions, starred in 11 feature films, mostly Georgian, and also created a number of poetic performances.

Over the years of his career, he was awarded the Order of Honor and the Medal of Honor in Georgia, as well as the Russian Order of Friendship and the Pushkin Medal, the Government medal of the Russian Federation "In memory of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg" and the medal for the 200th anniversary of the birth of F.M. Dostoevsky.
