French President Emmanuel Macron has taken the initiative to introduce a moratorium on strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure for the upcoming winter period.
According to the TASS news agency, he voiced this proposal during the final press conference in Beijing after talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
"We must join forces to achieve at least a ceasefire as soon as possible in the form of a moratorium on strikes aimed at infrastructure for the coming winter," Macron said.
The head of the Fifth Republic expressed hope that China would join this call in order to join forces with Europe "to preserve stability and international law."
Macron stressed that the conflict on Ukraine poses a threat to European security and called on China to use its influence in order to contribute to the achievement of "lasting peace in accordance with the UN Charter."
Earlier, EADaily reported that French President Emmanuel Macron arrived on a three-day state visit to China the day before. Trade issues are on the main agenda. Paris also intends to encourage the Chinese government to influence Russia, so that it stops fighting as soon as possible on Ukraine.
