The BRICS member countries are allegedly actively leaving this association, fearing US duties, this statement was made by US President Donald Trump at a meeting with Argentine leader Javier Mile.
"And I told everyone who wants to be in BRICS that this is normal, but we (the US) are going to impose duties against you. Everyone refused. They all decided to withdraw from the BRICS," he said.
Which specific countries decided to withdraw from the BRICS, Trump did not specify. Officially, none of the countries has left the association since its creation.
Earlier, the US president called the creation of BRICS an attack on the dollar and threatened to impose duties on those countries that are just thinking about joining the organization.
In September, BRICS leaders said during an online summit that trade has become an instrument of interference in the internal affairs of other countries, which undermines global development. They also noted that unilateral actions and intimidation have a negative impact on the international order, threatening international law and established norms.
BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006 by Russia, China, India and Brazil, in 2011 South Africa joined it. Since the beginning of 2024, a number of other countries have joined the BRICS. Earlier, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Cuba, Uganda, Malaysia, Uzbekistan and other countries officially became BRICS partner countries from January 1, 2025. On January 6 of this year, the Government of Brazil, which assumed the chairmanship of the association on January 1, announced Indonesia's accession to BRICS as a full participant.
