The Pentagon has called a rare emergency meeting of hundreds of military officials from around the world in Virginia, the reason is unknown even to top military leaders. It is reported by The Washington Post.
"US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered hundreds of generals and admirals of the US armed forces to gather as soon as possible — and without giving a reason — at the Marine Corps base in Virginia next week, sowing confusion and alarm after the dismissal of the administration (Donald) Trump many high-ranking executives this year. A very unusual directive was sent to almost all top military commanders around the world, according to more than a dozen people familiar with the matter,"the publication says.
It is noted that the directive was issued this week. In a statement on Thursday, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that Hegseth "will address his senior military leadership early next week," but did not provide any additional details.
According to the newspaper's sources, top commanders in conflict zones and senior military leaders stationed throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region are expected to attend the meeting. The order does not apply to senior military officers holding staff positions.
The interlocutors of the publication did not recall that the head of the Ministry of Defense had ever ordered such a large number of generals and admirals to gather in such a composition. This raises security concerns for some sources.
