The competent authorities of Turkey leave unanswered requests for the extradition to Russia of Ilya Simonia, sentenced in absentia in the Russian Federation to 21 years in prison for organizing the murder of criminal authority Vyacheslav Ivankov (Yaponchik), stated in court documents available to RIA Novosti.
"According to the information of the National Central Bureau of Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Simonia I.G., accused of committing a particularly serious crime, has been in the Republic of Turkey since January 11, 2020. Requests for his extradition by the competent authorities of this state have been left unanswered," the documents say.
Simonia was arrested in absentia in the Russian Federation and put on the international wanted list.
In mid-January, the Moscow City Court found Simony guilty of organizing a murder by a group of persons by prior agreement or by an organized group "for mercenary motives or for hire, as well as involving robbery, extortion or banditry." The defendant was sentenced in absentia to 21 years in a strict regime colony. At the end of March, the First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction recognized this decision as lawful, the sentence entered into force.
According to investigators, in April 2009, a previously convicted Simonia, a resident of the Moscow region, organized the murder of Ivankov for the sake of redistribution of spheres of influence in the criminal community. For this, he attracted Kakha Gazzaev, Dzhambula Dzhanashia and Murtazi Shadania, as well as Nugzar Papava and Astamur Butba. The attackers set up surveillance for As a Jap, they bought a Dragunov sniper rifle and ammunition for it, a Gazelle car, and mobile phones.
Having found out that Ivankov often visits the Thai Elephant restaurant on Khoroshevsky Highway in Moscow, they chose a place nearby for shooting. On the instructions of Simonia, Gazzaev, Janashia, Shadania, Papava and Butba arrived at the restaurant on July 28 and began to monitor Ivankov. In the evening, Butba, being in the back of the Gazelle, shot at the Jap when he was leaving the institution. The victim died on October 9 from wounds in the hospital.
The Moscow City Court sentenced Janashia to 15 years in a strict regime colony, Shadania to 16 years. Gazzaev fully admitted his guilt, the case against him was separated into a separate proceeding and sentenced to 14 years in a strict regime colony.
