The prospect of creating a new military organization similar to NATO in Europe with its own ideology will become a threat to Russia, from which it will have to defend itself. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko on the air of Rossiya-24.
Speaking about the fact that the European Union from a peaceful project "is really becoming something resembling a very aggressive military bloc," Grushko noted that "this is formalized not only by decisions to give it additional military capabilities for the development of the military-industrial complex, but even in a philosophical, ideological sense."
"This is an ideology, it worries us a lot, because we really will have to deal with a new military organization that harbors aggressive intentions against Russia and accordingly builds its military strategy, military construction, develops military potentials that directly create threats for us, against which we must defend ourselves and will do it," he said- the deputy minister emphasized.
At the same time, Grushko expressed doubt that an "independent NATO" would be able to emerge from the intentions of Brussels.
"It should be borne in mind that the United States controls NATO, and NATO controls the European Union. If you read all the strategic documents adopted jointly by NATO and the EU, < it postulates the subordinate role of the European Union in relation to NATO. That is, NATO formulates tasks, the European Union fulfills them. Therefore, it is very difficult to separate the European Union from NATO," he concluded, quoted by TASS.
