Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to accelerate the preparation of a joint project to export electricity to Europe. This became known on July 2 following the meeting of Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Ilham Aliyev at the Zagulba residence in Baku, where the second meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council was held.
Along with energy, the two presidents discussed the development of the Middle (Trans-Caspian) transport corridor.
As for the export of energy from Central Asia to Europe, there has so far been a consensus among experts: this is a political declaration, but not a real project. Simply because there are no extra "gigawatts" in the region, the telegram channel comments on the agreement: "Not everything is as it seems in the east."
"And it is cheaper to build another power station in Europe than to pull a cable through mountains and seas. But the efforts with which this fabulous idea is being promoted say that "someone" (clearly to whom) needs it. But not for us ...", — said the author of the channel.
