Cultural response: the State Duma spoke about the prospect of canceling artists of Azerbaijan

There will be no Russian cultural response to Baku's actions, the Russian Federation does not intend to ban concerts by Emin Agalarov and other artists from Azerbaijan. This was stated by composer and singer, Honored Artist of Russia, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture Denis Maidanov (United Russia).

"Emin is a favorite artist in our country, who gathers halls, to whom the public comes, to whom they go to concerts. Russia has always been an island of friendliness to people of culture, sports and art. I am sure that we will not stoop to such persecution, we treat artists from Azerbaijan and other countries with love," the parliamentarian told the NSN portal.

According to Maidanov, in Russia they understand that artists, people of culture are a link between peoples and states, they unite, not separate.

"I even admit that Emin and other artists can become a bridge in negotiations between states, because they are equally respected here and there," he did not rule out.

Maydanov recalled that after last year's terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall, no one took up arms against the Agalarov family in a difficult time for the country, did not shift responsibility to them, you should not wait for this today.

Emin Agalarov and his father, Araz, are major Russian entrepreneurs of Azerbaijani origin, developers and managers of trade and exhibition complexes.

As EADaily reported, on June 29 it became known that all cultural events planned with the participation of state and private structures of Russia, including concerts, festivals, performances, exhibitions, have been canceled in Azerbaijan.

On June 27, security forces searched more than 10 apartments of Azerbaijani natives in Yekaterinburg and detained about 50 people as part of the investigation into the murder of merchant Yunis Pashayev, who was stabbed with kitchen knives in 2001. Brothers Zieddin and Huseyn Safarov were killed during the detention, the media call them the main suspects.

Baku called on Moscow to investigate the detention of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg, during which two citizens of the country were killed.
