Oscar winner, American actor, director and producer Gary Oldman was awarded the title of Knight Bachelor. This is reported on the official website of the UK government.

"His contribution to attracting an international audience to British filmmaking and the 'brand of Britain' is extremely significant. In 2012, he was named the highest—grossing actor in the history of cinema, " the report says.

It is also noted that Oldman is known for his roles as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series, Commissioner Jim Gordon in the trilogy of Batman films The Dark Knight, as well as roles in the films Dracula and The President's Plane. In addition, Oldman received an Oscar for his role as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

King Charles III of Great Britain conferred the title of knight to Oldman in honor of his birthday (on November 14 last year, the king turned 76 years old). In total, 14 people were awarded honorary titles — cultural, scientific, and sports figures.

David Beckham, a former England and Manchester United footballer, also received the title of knight. The British authorities noted not only his merits as a football player, but also his charitable activities.
