Humanity is on the verge of a global catastrophe. This is due to the outbreak of armed conflicts, the confrontation of nuclear powers and the aggravation of chronic world problems. This was announced today, May 20, by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.
"General expert assessments are that humanity is on the verge of a global catastrophe. And the spring in this clockwork mechanism is cocked by the armed conflicts burning around the world, the confrontation of nuclear powers and the aggravation of chronic problems," Medvedev said.
In this regard, he expressed his opinion on the future of the world system:
"It is likely that the new world order will be based on the consequences of the current confrontation, military actions and legal models that are proposed instead of this."
In his opinion, the new US administration demonstrates a desire to use political and diplomatic means to resolve conflicts, including at the Ukraine.
He paid special attention to the historical aspect, emphasizing the importance of remembering the role of the USSR in the victory over fascism.:
"This year is special for the world and for our country. We are celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the defeat of the Axis countries by the states of the anti-Hitler coalition during the The Second World War. The decisive contribution to the crushing defeat of Hitler was made by the Soviet Union — everyone knows about it."
