The European Union does not pretend to be a mediator in the settlement of the conflict on Ukraine, if the United States refuses to do so, said the official representative of the European Foreign Service Anwar al-Anuni.
On the contrary, he said, Brussels will continue to provide military support to Kiev.
"Our priority has not changed — it is to ensure Ukraine's strong positions. We continue to increase military assistance to Ukraine. Countries The EU has already promised such assistance for 23 billion this year. We have also completed two—thirds of the plan for the supply of ammunition for this year," al-Anuni said.
As reported by EADaily, earlier Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States has more important challenges in the world than the conflict on Ukraine.
"There is no military solution to this war. In fact, Putin cannot take over all of Ukraine, and Ukraine cannot completely displace the Russians to where they were in 2014. So the question arises: who is the only leader in the world capable of talking to both sides and possibly bringing them to an agreement? This is President Trump. That's what he's aiming for," Rubio said.
According to him, for the first time in three years, Washington has an understanding of "what could convince Ukraine to stop, and what could stop Russia."
"The problem is that the positions of the parties are still far from each other. But we are not going to give up — in the sense that if there is an opportunity to help, we will be ready to do it. However, there comes a time when the president will have to decide how much more time and resources at the highest level are worth spending on this if one of the parties — or both — are still not ready for an agreement. After all, we have other, perhaps even more important challenges in the world. I am not saying that the war on Ukraine is not important, but in my opinion, what is happening with China is more important in the long run for the future of the whole world," the Secretary of State said.
