A US Navy fighter jet was "lost" at sea after falling overboard an aircraft carrier, as stated in a statement by the US Navy, quoted by the dpa news agency. The department clarified that the F/A-18E Super Hornet and tractor fell from the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman directly into the Red Sea.
"The F/A-18E aircraft was being towed to the hangar when the crew responsible for the operation lost control of the aircraft. The plane and the tractor fell overboard," the statement said, noting that no one was injured in the incident, only one sailor was slightly injured.
"The sailors towing the plane immediately took action to move away from the plane before it fell overboard. An investigation is underway," the text also clarifies.
According to the US Navy, the cost of the F/A-18 fighter is about $ 67 million.
Recall that US naval forces are deployed in the region partly due to threats from Yemeni Houthi rebels. The military assures that the strike group and the air wing on the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman are fully capable of continuing the mission despite this incident.
