The New York Times named the causes of the explosion in the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas

The explosion in the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas occurred due to a substance used as an ingredient for solid rocket fuel, the New York Times reported, citing a source.

"A person associated with the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that sodium perchlorate, the main ingredient of solid rocket fuel, exploded," the newspaper writes.

A powerful explosion occurred on Saturday afternoon in the port of Bandar Abbas. According to media reports, it occurred at the pier as a result of a fuel tank fire. As reported by the Iranian state agency Fars, the explosion was so powerful that it was heard on the island of Qeshm, located 20 kilometers from the port in The Persian Gulf. The explosion knocked out windows within a radius of several kilometers. The Iranian Interior Ministry ordered an inspection to begin. According to the latest data, the death toll from the explosion in the port has risen to 14 people, about 750 were injured.
