The water war between the USA and Mexico, drew the attention of political scientist Malek Dudakov.
The two countries have had an agreement on the mutual use of water resources since 1944. However, in recent years, against the background of a record drought, it has become almost impossible to perform it. Farmers on both sides of the border are in dire need of water, he writes in his telegram channel with reference to the American media.

Mexico began to supply much less water to American farmers from the Rio Grande. This has already led to a real crisis in the Texas farming industry. The last sugar factory in the state closed in 2024.
"Citrus cultivation is also under attack. Texas accounts for a third of the total American orange harvest. This could spur a rise in prices in the US food market — especially in the context of raging trade wars. Farmers in Texas has to switch to growing crops like sesame, which do not require constant irrigation," he notes.▼ читать продолжение новости ▼
The White House, in turn, threatens Mexico with tariffs and sanctions if water supplies do not increase. However, it is hardly possible to change the climate by administrative methods. And relations with Mexico are going through hard times amid tariff wars and tightening the screws in the field of migration, Dudakov points out.
"In addition, Donald Trump's team is trying to transfer all border lands under the control of the Pentagon. This is done with an eye to conducting a future military operation against illegal immigrants and drug cartels. In this case, the situation in the American border area will sharply worsen. In the case of military escalation, the problem of shortage of water resources will quickly become far from the most urgent for farmers on both sides of the border," the political scientist concludes.
