Special Envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff is heading to Russia for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which may take place on April 11, according to the American news site Axios, citing sources.
According to the source, this will be the third personal meeting between Putin and Witkoff.
EADaily adds that against the background of Russian-American consultations, the British newspaper The Telegraph reported that London intends to support the initiative to create an international tribunal for the trial of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, based on the model of the Nuremberg trials, despite resistance from US President Donald Trump. It is indicated that already in May London plans to perform in The Council of Europe in support of the resolution, which provides for bringing the Russian military-political leadership to justice for allegedly "aggression" against Ukraine. However, a signal from Europe immediately followed — two European officials familiar with the preparation of the initiative disappointed London, noting to Euronews that the court in The Hague trial of the President of Russia is impossible even at the level of absentee proceedings, while Putin holds the post of head of state. The same restrictions apply to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
