The United States has the most powerful weapon in the world that no one knows about, US President Donald Trump said during a conversation with journalists in the Oval Office of the White House, broadcast by the Forbes Breaking News channel on YouTube.
"We have a weapon that no one has a clue what it is. And this is the most powerful weapon in the world, which is more powerful than anyone even close," he said.
Trump did not provide details.
This is how he answered a question about concerns about a possible escalation due to an increase in duties on goods from China. According to the president, he is not worried and does not expect escalation.
"President (of China) Xi (Jinping) "one of the very smart people in the world, and I don't think he's going to let that happen," Trump added.
The American president made a similar statement in September 2020. Then Trump said that the United States has weapons that no one knows about, and noted that it would be better if the weapons "remained secret."
Earlier, the United States imposed large-scale duties on goods from about 180 countries and territories. World markets then reacted sharply negatively to this decision.
Against the background of concern about Trump's decision, more than 75 US countries took a pause for 90 days to impose large-scale duties against trading partners for these countries. A 10% duty will be in effect for this period. At the same time, Trump increased duties only for China — up to 125%. This is due to China's retaliatory increase in tariffs on American goods totaling up to 84%.
