Svetlana Shpigel's jewelry and watch collection, donated to her by her ex-husbands, were arrested as part of the criminal case of the former governor of the Penza region Ivan Belozertsev.
Spiegel was married twice: to People's Artist of Russia Nikolai Baskov, as well as Ukrainian businessman Vyacheslav Sobolev.
The father of Baskov's ex-wife, Boris Shpigel, received 11 years in prison for bribing Belozertsev. Svetlana's mother, Evgenia Shpigel, was sentenced to 8 years in a penal colony and fined 150 million rubles. In the future, Spiegel was released from serving his sentence for health reasons.
The defense of the Shpigels asked the court to lift the arrest from Svetlana's property.
"There is no evidence of its acquisition by criminal means, the seized jewelry and the daughter's watch collection were donated by her husbands," RIA Novosti quotes the lawyers' arguments.
It was also indicated that the woman received watches and jewelry, including "as part of the division of jointly acquired property until March 2015."
Currently, claims about the seized property of the Shpigels are still being considered by a court in Moscow. So, in February of this year, the Izmailovsky court refused to return paintings and antique books belonging to Spiegel, which were seized during the preliminary investigation.
Svetlana Shpigel and Nikolai Baskov were married from January 2001 to May 2008. A son was born in the marriage, Bronislav, with whom Baskov does not see.
As EADaily reported, at the end of March this year, the Moscow Arbitration Court introduced the initial bankruptcy procedure — debt restructuring — in respect of Svetlana Shpigel.
