Drama Theater from Odessa failed its tour in In the Baltic States due to the fact that he suddenly changed the language of the performance — from Russian to Ukrainian. Russian-speaking residents of Lithuania and Latvia simply did not understand the move and left.
We are talking about the comedy "May you be Happy!" based on the play by the Ukrainian playwright Alexander Volodarsky.
"May you be happy!"This is a romantic story, sharply seasoned with Odessa humor and cheerful dances, in which Odessa is also easily recognized," read the poster in the Russian Theater of Riga.
However, theatergoers were in for an unpleasant surprise. The announcement and information on the tickets announced that the production would be held in Russian, but the artists suddenly started speaking in Ukrainian. Here is an assessment of what happened by one of the Riga spectators:
"Shame on the organizers and artists! There has not been such a deception and a scam in our region for a long time. The performance, instead of Russian, as indicated in the advertisement and ticket, was held in Ukrainian. I don't understand anything! 80% of the audience left in the first half. Hand over your tickets!"
In apologetic explanations, the organizers clarified:
"During the preparation of documents for the departure of the theater from Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine ordered that performances in Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia can only take place in Ukrainian."
