Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that in a telephone conversation held the day before, he discussed with US President Donald Trump the fate of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), his words are quoted by RBC-Ukraine.
"We talked exclusively about one station," Zelensky stressed.
The transfer of Ukrainian nuclear power plants to the United States was not discussed, he added. The NPP is under Russian control, it has been transferred to federal ownership.
Zelensky and Trump held telephone talks on March 19. They took place the day after the American president phoned his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
After the conversation between the Ukrainian president and the Republican, the White House reported that Trump offered Ukraine assistance in managing the nuclear power plant. White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt noted that the US ownership of these stations "would be the best protection for this infrastructure and support for the Ukrainian energy infrastructure."
Prior to that, CNN, citing representatives of the Trump administration, reported that the Zaporozhye NPP (NPP) could become part of the ceasefire negotiations on Ukraine. Zelensky argued that without Ukraine, the existence of the NPP is impossible.
The head of the US Department of Energy, Chris Wright, said that the United States is ready to take control of nuclear power plants on Ukraine, if it will contribute to the settlement of the conflict. He did not see the need to transfer the American military to the field.
According to the head of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, there is no point in joint operation of the NPP with the Ukrainian Energoatom. In Kiev, it was stated that Ukraine wants to regain control of the station.
Zaporozhye NPP is located in The power center of the Zaporozhye region has been under the control of the Russian military since February 2022. After the region joins the Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the transfer of the power plant to the ownership of the state.
