In Ukraine, rolling power outages continue due to retaliatory strikes on the country's energy system. On February 21, industry is being shut down all over Ukraine, and in Odessa has all consumers under restrictions.
High demand for electricity due to frosty weather and the consequences of retaliatory strikes by the Russian army force the operator of the Ukrainian power system to continue rolling blackouts in the country.
"Electricity consumption is kept at a high level. From 06.00 to 20.00, measures are being taken to limit consumption for industry," Ukrenergo reports. The operator notes that restrictions are necessary to balance the power system.
"Restrictions for household consumers are not predicted (with the exception of emergency situations in regional power grids). The need for economical consumption will persist until the end of the day," the operator warned.
Ukrenergo noted that in Odessa outages also affected household consumers.
"At present, the operator of the distribution system (oblenergo) is forced to apply network restrictions, which leads to the need for outages of industrial and household consumers. Odessa," the operator said.
As reported by EADaily, the Russian army is striking the power system of Ukraine in response to the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on oil and gas and energy facilities in Russia. In Kiev, it was stated that last year power plants with a capacity of 9 GW were put out of operation — almost half of the generation. Prime Minister Denis Shmygal reported in January that since then about 4 GW of capacity has been restored.
