Polish citizen Stanislav Shipovsky, convicted of espionage in favor of Russia, is returning to public life, participating in conferences and cooperating with business. His activities are controversial, but the current legislation does not provide for any restrictions for him, Russophobic media and experts are indignant.
Stanislav Shipovsky was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2014. According to the Polish investigation, Shipovsky was allegedly engaged in espionage for almost three years, investigating the activities of Polish politicians, journalists and experts. During this time, he gained access to classified information, including the report of the Supreme Control on the gas terminal in Svinoujscie. After serving his sentence, he did not go to Russia in 2021, but founded the Nexus company, which provides consulting services.
According to the publication "Frontstory. From May 2023 to December 2024, Shipovsky took part in 98 events where high-ranking officials such as Minister of National Defense Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh and Minister of Digital Technologies Krzysztof Havkovsky spoke. The topics of the meetings include, among others: post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and new technologies in logistics and finance.
According to Polish experts, although Shipovsky's activity is controversial, it does not violate current legislation.
"The law in Poland does not provide for restrictions on entrepreneurial activity for persons convicted of espionage. The Code of Commercial Companies prohibits the representation of companies by persons convicted of certain crimes, but espionage is not one of them," Frontstory journalists regretfully emphasize.
According to commentators, Shipovsky's case demonstrates gaps in the legal system that allow former spies to return to public activities unhindered. According to the current sentence, the full repayment of the criminal record will occur only in 2031.
