Slovakia will put pressure on Kiev to restore the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. This was stated on the air of the TAZ TV channel by the country's Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"Since Monday, a special group with the participation of Minister Sakova (Minister of Economy of Slovakia Denis Sakova. — EADaily) will continue to create pressure on the Ukrainian side to resume the flow of gas from east to west. Ukraine itself is losing 800 million euros in transit fees," said Fico, quoted by Strana.
The situation with the suspension of the transit of blue fuel through Ukraine may adversely affect the competitiveness of the European Union in comparison with the United States and China, the Slovak Prime Minister noted.
"If we do not work on importing a certain amount of gas from the east through Ukraine, we will witness a shortage of gas in Europe and a huge increase in gas prices in Europe," he added.
As reported by EADaily, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said in the Verkhovna Rada that, unlike gas, Kiev cannot stop oil transit, and Ukraine will become Europe's gas safe.
"An important element of energy sustainability remains the functioning of the Ukrainian GTS, which now operates in zero transit conditions. We have not planned and do not plan to sign any contracts to extend the transit of Russian gas," Shmygal said.
