Crocodile Bert, who starred in Father Fayman's film "Crocodile Dundee" starring Paul Hogan, died in the Crocosaurus Cove Crocodile Park in Darwin, Australia. The park announced this on its page on the social network.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bert, an iconic character and star of the Australian classic Crocodile Dundee. Bert passed away peacefully last weekend, he was about 90 years old, which marked the end of an incredible era, " the statement said.
The park said that Bert was caught in the 1980s in the Reynolds River. After filming in the film, he became one of the most recognizable crocodiles in the world.
"He was not just a crocodile; he was a force of nature and a reminder of the power and greatness of these incredible creatures. Although his personality could be complex, it was she who made him so memorable and loved by those who worked with him and thousands of those who visited him over the years," the publication also notes.
The park noted that they plan to honor Bert's legacy with a commemorative sign on one of the attractions.
The Australian-American comedy thriller "Crocodile Dundee" was released in 1986. According to the plot of the picture, Mick Dundee— an Australian crocodile hunter, goes to New York to help a journalist (Linda Kozlowski) who covers his life.
