The court sentenced to 16 years in prison and a strict regime colony a Voronezh student who carried out tasks for a Ukrainian terrorist organization. This was reported in the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia.
The Second Western District Military Court found Ivan Maksimov guilty under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (high treason), part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of a terrorist organization), Article 281.2 of the Criminal Code (training in order to carry out sabotage activities), paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code (arson, aimed at damaging transport infrastructure facilities in order to undermine the defense capability of the Russian Federation).
"The court, taking into account the position of the public prosecutor, sentenced Maksimov to 16 years in prison," the report says.
He will spend the first four years of his sentence in prison, the rest in a high—security penal colony.
According to the case file, in November 2023, a student of the Voronezh Forestry Engineering University contacted representatives of the Ukrainian paramilitary association Legion "Freedom of Russia"*. He filled out a questionnaire and expressed his intention to carry out any assignments on the territory of Russia, hoping that in the future he would be transferred to Ukraine.
The Russian gave information about the location of one of the volunteer organizations helping SMO participants, pasted leaflets with false information about upcoming bomb attacks on crowded places. In January of this year, Maximov was assigned to set fire to the trunk communication cabinet on the railway, which was supposed to impede the movement of trains carrying military equipment to the SMO zone. Having passed the appropriate training, in February he opened the cabinet case, set it on fire and fled the scene of the crime.
