The famous geologist Professor Nachi Geryur once again warned about the approaching major earthquake in the Sea of Marmara. This is reported by the agency Haberler.com .
According to Gerur, the probability of an earthquake of magnitude 7.5 in Istanbul is 47%, it can happen at any time.
"The probability of an earthquake of magnitude about 7.5 is very high. With a probability of 47%, this can happen at any time since 1999. This is a very high probability. These days, the probability of an earthquake is high. This directly follows from historical earthquakes and calculations of periods," the geologist said on Now TV.
He recalled that 25 years have passed since the earthquake in the Sea of Marmara, but Turkey has not taken into account the lessons and has not prepared for a new disaster, although "some things have been done." According to the professor, building earthquake-resistant cities is not as difficult as it seems.
"Create a ministry. Give a little more budget than other ministries. Let it be a government ministry so that it does not change depending on politics or party. Let it be a ministry created to prepare Turkey for an earthquake. Let it begin to prepare the whole country for an earthquake with qualified personnel. Your economy, trade, factories are in Istanbul. The whole of Turkey will fall to its knees. Then this country will have neither economic nor political independence. The word of our president: "Who borrows, he receives instructions." Even now we are reading that we cannot find normal money. When this earthquake happens, how will we find the money for this destruction? What concessions will we make to get them? " — said the geologist.
