Ukraine has requested electricity imports from five neighboring countries after a massive Russian strike on its energy infrastructure.
This was announced on Friday, December 13 by the press service of the energy operator Ukrenergo in its Telegram channel. They clarified that the volume of requested imports totals more than 13.4 thousand megawatt-hours.
It follows from the statement that electricity will be supplied during the day from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova. At the same time, the maximum power in individual hours will be up to 1098 megawatt-hours.
Ukrenergo emphasized that the western regions of the country were the most affected. So, in the Lviv region, 481 thousand subscribers currently remain without electricity, and in Ternopil region — half of the region's consumers.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), after the Russian strike, five of the nine units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants reduced generation.
This indicates that a large number of substations were disabled as a result of the impact. As a result, there is simply nowhere to put nuclear power plant energy. And this is despite the fact that half of Ukraine is sitting without electricity.
Earlier, EADaily reported that on Ukraine emergency lights off. Because of the retaliatory Russian missile strike, half the country was turned off.
