Dmitry Romaev, ex-chairman of the board of FC Otkritie Bank, arrested in absentia by the Moscow Petty Bourgeois Court, is accused of embezzling about 3 billion rubles. This is reported by Kommersant, citing sources.

According to the investigation, Romayev lent such an amount to the Cypriot firm Benirlia Holdings Limited controlled by him. The company has not returned the money and is currently in liquidation. Romaev himself moved abroad back in 2020, now the Ministry of Internal Affairs will try to organize his international search through Interpol, Kommersant writes.

It is noted that the TFR and the Investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been investigating criminal cases of large-scale fraud of the former top management of Otkritie Bank for more than six years. In general, according to law enforcement officers, hundreds of billions have been withdrawn from the credit institution in these cases. Periodically, new episodes are allocated to a separate production, as happened with 53-year-old Romaev, who was recently arrested in absentia by the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow.

Now Dmitry Romaev, who, in addition to Russian, also has Cypriot citizenship, according to Kommersant, lives in Monaco.
