Ukraine will never be able to defeat Russia, Kiev's allies help it not to lose the war. This was stated in an interview with Bild by the leader of the main German opposition party CDU Friedrich Merz.

So he answered the question of whether Ukraine should win the war.

"Ukraine will never be able to defeat Russia, this has never been the goal. But for me, winning means: It must restore sovereignty over its territory. And Russia must stop attacking this country. We must do everything so that Russia considers the continuation of the war hopeless," Merz said, quoted by Strana.

However, Kiev's allies are "quite far from it," the German politician admitted.

As the DW* main telegram channel wrote earlier, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel wished success to Friedrich Merz, who recently became a candidate for chancellor of Germany from the opposition CDU/CSU bloc.

"Merz has been Merkel's main political rival for many years, and since 2022 he has been heading the conservative Christian Democratic Union, of which Merkel was previously the chairwoman," TK recalled.
