Following in the footsteps of the Nazis: APU began to use dragon drones with molten metal - CNN

Ukraine, apparently, is creating a fleet of "dragon drones", modernizing the ammunition used with terrifying effect in both world wars. This is reported by CNN.

A series of videos posted on social networks, including the Telegram of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on Wednesday, demonstrates how low-flying drones drop streams of fire. In fact, it is molten metal, the TV channel reports.

It is noted that a white-hot mixture of aluminum powder and iron oxide, called thermite, burns at temperatures up to 2,200 degrees Celsius and can quickly burn trees and vegetation and if not kill, then put enemy troops out of action.

"Attack drones are our wings of retribution, bringing fire directly from the sky! They become a real threat to the enemy, burning his positions with an accuracy that no other weapon can achieve," the 60th Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine said in a message on social networks.

The whipping up of this kind of fear is probably the main effect of the Ukrainian termite drones, said Nicholas Drummond, a defense industry analyst specializing in ground wars, an ex-officer of the British Army.

"Using a drone to deliver it (termite. — EADaily) quite innovative. But with such use, its effect will be more psychological than physical. I understand that Ukraine has only limited capabilities to provide a thermite effect, so this is a niche opportunity, not a new mass weapon," Drummond told CNN.

However, he admits the horror a termite can cause.

A termite can easily burn through almost anything, including metal, the TV channel notes.

"It was discovered by a German chemist in the 1890s and was originally used for welding railway tracks. But its military might soon became apparent when the Germans dropped it from airships as bombs over the UK during the First World War... Both Germany and the allies used thermite bombs during the Second World War, and they also used them," CNN notes.
