The North Atlantic Alliance called on Russia to withdraw troops "from Georgia". This was stated by NATO spokesman Farah Dahlalla.

She wrote about this in her social network account.

"We call on Russia to withdraw the troops stationed in Georgia without its consent. South Ossetia and Abkhazia are part of Georgia, despite 16 years of Russian occupation. NATO fully supports Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Dakhlalla said, quoted by Rossiya-1 presenter Olga Skabeeva in her telegram channel.

It should be noted that the call was made against the background of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack on the Kursk region of Russia.

NATO, other Western organizations and authorities periodically demand from Moscow to withdraw Russian troops "from the territory of Georgia," that is, from Abkhazia and South Ossetia, after August 2008, when Tbilisi attacked South Ossetia, and Russia stood up to protect its citizens and peacekeepers.

On the night of August 8, 2008, Tbilisi began shelling civilians in Tskhinvali with Grads, one of the first strikes the Georgian military inflicted on the peacekeepers' base in the north of the city. At first, the city was defended by South Ossetian militias, then Moscow responded to requests from South Ossetia to help in the fight against the enemy, which was significantly superior in strength, and introduced units of the 58th army into South Ossetia. Moscow completed the operation to force Georgia to peace on August 12. As a result of the 2008 Georgian aggression, more than 1,000 people were killed, including 72 Russian peacekeepers.

Moscow recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on August 26, 2008. Since then, peace in the republics and the safety of the population have been guaranteed by the Russian bases, which are located there in accordance with interstate agreements with Sukhum and Tskhinvali.
